Leaf Picking

We really need to find a new name for it.  Every fall we go on a walk to pick good leaves off the ground.

A fall walk.

Equipment required: a hoodie, a bag, and a good pair of walking shoes.

A couple of dogs don’t hurt, either.

Then it turns into a fall run.

The dogs were so keyed up we decided to carry our plan to a new location where they could run unhindered.

The dog park!

They could run with a pack and we could find even better leaves.

The dog park is adjacent to a wood.  In the winter it also has this sledding hill.

Do you see three people in this picture?

Kids can always find something to do with a hill, snow or no snow…

Tristan has already run down and fallen prostrate.

Falling prostrate is the game plan for today.

Go, Sawyer, go!  Go fall prostrate!

Do you remember the last time you ran this hard and fast just so you could fall down?

It’s a grand plan.

Why did we stop playing it?

Knees.  And hips.

That’s why.

Kids are so lucky.

We adults have to do things like stand around and take pictures.

It’s not quite as thrilling.  It feels incomplete, stunted, like the end of this leaf, missing.

When you roll and fall down hills it gives you these kind of eyes.

Eyes filled with adventure.

I miss that.

My eyes are probably filled with piles of laundry and dinner menus.

I wonder if there’s a way to get Adventure Eyes back.

I bet a trip to a tropical island would get them back.

Short of that, I guess I’ll have to go roll down a hill myself.

Just let me get this one last shot…

I love these pictures! We are getting a chilly taste of fall here. Highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s which is odd for this time of year, but at least it’s not the 90s!

Wow, that last shot of Tristy should be framed and hung on your wall. Or mine. Why didn’t Kiki go?

This is some of my favorite writing of yours. It says everything I was thinking as I looked at the pictures.

And yet I still am not really going to go try to run down a hill and fall on purpose.

Well, be careful when you are falling prostrate in a dog park. That’s all I will say about that.
I love this post…I, too, have the laundry eyes. In fact, I have a monster laundry pile staring at me right now as I type…it’s on my bed messing up my peripheral vision. Can I just say it’s extra covers? It finally got chilly here today. 🙂

I love fall and this posting made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Those kid eyes can come back. Rolling down a hill is one way for sure… but a tropical trip… ahhhh.

    Love your photography. Stunning photos!
